When Maurice Wilks, Rover’s chief designer, came up with a plan to produce a light agricultural utility vehicle in 1947 he would have no idea that his design would become an icon and launch a whole new industry sector. The original Land Rover revolutionised rural transport. As an engineering marvel it can still outstrip its modern counterparts, and the Series I rightly belongs in the Motoring Hall of Fame. Hugely successful globally, improvements were made throughout the production run finally ending this year.

This is a very rare second year of production example registered August 1949 so finished in Bronze Green and with lights behind the grille.

She was dry stored for many years and then restored by a Land Rover specialist several years ago at a cost of around £20000.

There is a full pictorial history of the the work including pre resto and the tub and panels were in superb condition also stated by the restorer and still looks fabulous today.

She drives really well with the side valve engine and with a good gearbox having synchromesh on third and fourth gears and is very tight for 68 year old!

With the Land Rover factory recreating some Series Ones this year at a cost of £60-80k the original versions are expected to gain greatly in value so it’s a great time to invest in one of the best available.

Supplied fully inspected, serviced with a 12 month warranty.
