1968 MERCEDES 280SL UK CAR – SOLD

Hard to believe the SL was launched at Geneva in 1963 and although conventional running gear was used the engines were at last refined fuel injected 6 cylinders rather than the husky, agricultural carb fuelled 4 cylinders of the 190 SL.

They drove really well for a 1960s design compared to the competition and were an instant success with car enthusiasts, celebrities, and wealthy owners and were soon nicknamed the “Pagoda” due to the stunning shape of the hardtop.

This beautiful top of the range 280 finished in Metallic blue with parchment interior example was supplied in the UK by Alan Day Mercedes London March 1968 confirmed on the sales invoice at the sum of £4225.

She has enjoyed consistent maintenance at the leading SL specialist Roger Edwards for the past 15 years and owned by a serious car collector for the past 12 years.

There is a great history file including invoices and handbooks, original sales invoice, stamped service book and production chassis data card.

Roger Edwards has carried out any work necessary including a full engine rebuild around 12,000miles ago.

She presents beautifully and the detailing is exceptional including soft /hard tops which are in great condition.

On the road, she is surprisingly modern considering her age! Smooth 6 cylinders with a 4-speed auto box and power steering make for easy but spirited driving and you feel you could use her as an everyday car if required.
