1985 Mercedes SL 500 – 95,000 miles – £34,950
From its launch in 1971 the SL soon became the standard all other Grand convertible touring cars aspired to.
By the end of production there had been very few major changes just mild developments and enhancements.
This beautiful Nautic blue example was supplied by Alan Day Mercedes in London and pampered from day one with regular servicing and only a handful of owners over the years.
She has received a thorough mechanical restoration in 2011 by Mercedes SL Guru Colin Fearns and then a major body/chassis restoration by Hilton and Moss the cost of works in excess of £35000 !
The result is a magnificent example in both metal work and mechanically with the standard of detail and finish as good as you would expect from the 2 leading specialists who worked on her.
All the work is documented in an excellent history file which includes old mots and many invoices dating back over the years.
The original stamped service book is complete as are the handbooks etc even in the original plastic sleeve cover
This is without doubt one of the best examples available and with all the work carried out at someone else"s cost she represents good value when most SL500 at this age probably require major restoration to avoid the well known rust issues.
On the road she is very well sorted with very strong V8 engine and smooth gearbox making progress effortless and any long trip can be completed very easily in these cars compared to many 1980s competitors
