The Series 3 Jaguars were becoming very dated in the late 1980s and it was time to move on with a more modern design and the XJ40 was the solution although both the S3 and XJ40 were sold alongside each other until the early 1990s.

As well as all new bodywork ,suspension the interior was finally digitalised with the latest style instruments which was very in vogue at this time.
