1969 RILEY ELF MK3 1275CC – £13,950

The Riley Elf and the Wolseley Hornet were launched in 1961 as more luxurious versions of the Mini. Both cars shared the Mini wheelbase, but were longer than the Mini with slightly finned rear wings larger boots, and traditional Riley and Wolseley style grilles, with a dry weight for the Elf of 618kg. The cars had larger chrome hubcaps, additional chrome ornamentation bumper overriders and wood-veneer dashboards. and the Riley was the more expensive of the two. Both the Riley Elf’s and Wolseley Hornet’s bodies were built at Fisher & Ludlow and were of higher quality than their Longbridge cousins.

This lovely mk3 end-of-line Elf enjoyed a thorough bare shell restoration around 10 years ago and was then upgraded with a 1275 cc engine and gearbox with full synchromesh as well as upgraded brakes and luxury interior.

There’s a pictorial history of the restoration and she presents well today.

On the road, the Elf is lively and with a great easy-to-use gearbox she is lots of fun and ready to minke with modern traffic.
