|After years of mass producing the 1800cc B GT it was about time MG finally built an exciting variant especially after the unpopular C model which did not fulfil the needs of the sporting enthusiast.
Costello Engineering were the first to produce a modified B roadster fitted with the ubiquitous Rover V8 and Abingdon effectively stole the concept and put the GT into production in 1972.
The end result was a really special performance car very popular with enthusiasts and even the motoring press.
The last cars were completed in 1975 with a total number of 1800 chrome bumper cars built and only 206 finished in this stunning Citron Yellow colour.
This lovely 7 owner example left the factory in March 1974 but only sold in September that year to a London buyer.
The history file documents continual maintenance with some invoices dating back to the 70s and 80s complete with an original owners manual.
She has recently had a mechanical overhaul costing around £7,000 including rebuilt gearbox and overdrive, stainless steel exhaust, radiator, water pump, suspension etc.
Although not concours she is in superb condition and a strong driver with a very tight chassis.
On the road the V8 roars and provides plenty of grunt propelling her unlike any other MG with high speed cruising easily achieved with the overdrive gearbox.
