1985 FERRARI 308 GTSi QV – SOLD
The beautiful 308 was a classic car from the moment it was launched in 1975. After the Bertone-styled Dino 308GT4, Pininfarina was back on board for the two-seater 246 GT’s replacement – and it was a stunning return to form for Ferrari.
It was powered by the V8 from the GT4, and for the first 712 cars, was made in glass fibre – a first for Ferrari. That didn’t last long, as it was cheaper and quicker to build the 308 from steel.
The steel-bodied 308s were good sellers from launch in 1977. And Ferrari continued to develop them throughout their life until 1985 when the 328 was launched. Early cars are the most powerful with the Weber carbs, with the later 1980-on Bosch injection system still providing great power whilst easier to drive in low-speed situations.
This stunning Nero black GTSi was made in the final year of production before the 328 was launched and is matching numbers.
She was sold new in Sydney in July 1985 and has only enjoyed 6 owners before being imported to the UK in 2016 when she was fully inspected, serviced, new cambelts, tyres by world-renowned Rardley Motors at a cost of £5000.
She has enjoyed UK servicing and last serviced Feb 2021 at SB Ferrari including cambelts, water pump etc and is ready to enjoy.
There is a good history file and service/handbooks supporting the low mileage with invoices, letters etc. and like many 308s she has been a part of connoisseur car collections for many years.
No doubt due to the favourable climate she has maintained her originality much better than a car living in damp UK for these 30 years and is amongst the very best examples available anywhere.
On the road, it is very clear that this is a very low mileage tight and sorted 308 with a perfect engine, gearbox and chassis making it a joy to drive.
The bark from the sports exhaust is intoxicating and you feel like you are featuring in a sports car race in the 1980s!
With the Fiat-based Dino 246 now being out of most collectors reach the very best 308s are tipped to be the next to rise greatly in value with restoration costs of inferior cars being so expensive.
The best is only really worth considering.
